Bagel and Hot Tea Update!

Highlight since last Thursday: The past couple of weeks we had Jill’s little sister and cousin staying with us. It is always nice to have them here with us. We took them back to Chicago on Monday, and our place feels a little empty and lonely without them.

Books I’m reading: I started reading “Doubting” by Alister McGrath a while ago and then put it down. Recently one of my students came to me with lots of doubts and questions, so I thought I would finish the book to see if it would be a help to her.

Music I’m digging: Old school hip-hop has made a return to the top of my musical playlists.

Ministry update: The summer is flying by, but it has been cool. We started the summer with just a couple of boys in our jr. high group, and last week we had 11 students! It was cool. Our high school group hasn’t missed a beat (at least numerically) and we have 10 students missing this summer because of trips and camp. I’m really excited about what God has planned for us.

Something Random: I’m going to go to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch today with some of my high school guys. YEAH BOY!

Looking forward to: Tomorrow is my nephew’s birthday. He will be 2 years old!

Final Thoughts: Can anyone tell me what a vacation where you don’t do anything but relax feels like? The last time we did that was our honeymoon.

Bagel and Hot Tea Update!

Highlight since last Thursday: On Saturday, we had a photo scavenger hunt for our high school group. We put them into 4 teams, gave them a list of 110+ photo opportunities and 1 1/2 hours, and let them go. It was fun just watching them come back laughing. All the students and leaders who went said they had a good time.

Books I’m reading: I’m reading “Starving Jesus” by Craig Gross and J.R. Mahon. I really enjoy it so far. I appreciate their openness and honesty.

Music I’m digging: Seriously, I haven’t listened to much music this week. Sorry.

Ministry update: I don’t know if it is me, or if everyone feels like this, but I just can’t seem to get ahead of my work. I keep looking at the calendar and thinking “Holy Crap! Our trip to Puerto Rico will be here soon, and then the fall, and then…” I’m hoping a week away will refresh me and let me see that the world won’t fall apart without me.

Something Random: I finally went golfing this week. I was terrible, but I had a few nice shots. I felt rushed because we had to wait because of people in front of us, and then there were people behind us. It probably wouldn’t have mattered because I am not a good golfer. At least I have my looks.

Looking forward to: On Monday, Jill and I will be leaving Story City to go to Chicago for the week. It will be nice to see friends and family, and to eat at our favorite restaurants.

Final Thoughts: My desk is so cluttered right now, I can’t think. I’m going to remedy that problem right now.

Bagel and Hot Tea Update!

Highlight since last Thursday: Last night two of my good friends, Nate and Jackie, and their children stayed with us last night. They are on their way to Chicago, so we wanted them to stay with us. It was so much fun. Being able to hang out and talk to them, and it was so much fun hanging out with their kids! I wish we lived closer to each other.

Books I’m reading: I finished “Sticky Church” by Larry Osborne finally. I liked it a lot, and it made a lot of sense to me. Now I’m reading “Starving Jesus” by Craig Gross and J.R. Mahon. I like what I’ve read so far.

Music I’m digging: I watched a TV show recently that had some old Pearl Jam songs in it and it made me want to dig out my Pearl Jam.

Ministry update: School is out around here, and summer is upon us. That means we have new 7th grade students joining the jr. high group, and new freshmen moving into the high school group. It’s always fun to see what the newbies bring to our group.

Something Random: I went and saw Terminator Salvation with some of the older guys in the youth group on Sunday night. It was a good movie. We had a lot of fun!

Looking forward to: On Saturday we are having a Photo Scavenger Hunt with our high school group. A couple of seniors helped me put it together, and we are really excited about it. The prizes are hilarious.

Final Thoughts: I’ve been deep in debate with myself over what I should get. On one hand I want to get a Macbook Pro because it would be awesome. On the other hand, I want to get a nice digital SLR camera to take awesome pictures. Chances are I won’t get either, but we’ll see.

Bagel and Hot Tea Update!

Highlight since last Thursday: REST! I love my job (most of the time) and I love Sunday nights and youth group times, but this past Sunday it was so nice to sit and rest. We canceled youth group because it was Mother’s day. It was nice to see my family and then be able to relax and decompress. I don’t like canceling group very often, but it was nice.

Music I’m digging: Jon Foreman! My friend Phil Shields recommended that I get the four EP’s he did, and I love them. My favorite songs are “The Cure for Pain” and “Instead of a Show”

Ministry update: This Sunday is our annual Graduation Sunday Celebration at church. I am working hard on making it a great service and something that will honor our graduates.

Something Random: LOST was CRAZY last night. Now I have to wait until 2010 to find out what happened! At least I have two more hours of 24 to look forward to!

Looking forward to: Along with graduation comes all the graduation open houses! It’s always nice to be able to hang out with people and eat for free. We have a few open houses this weekend, and a few next weekend. Nice!

Final Thoughts: I have yet to go golfing this season. I am due to go, but every time I think I will go, it rains! I am hoping that next Tuesday I can get out and swing the sticks. Pray with me for good weather!

Bagel and Hot Tea Update!

Highlight since last Thursday: Last night we held our first ever Messianic Seder with our high school group. I had never seen a Seder much less led one before, but I thought it went well. It was really cool to be a part of something that has such history and meaning. I hope the students got a lot out of it.

Books I’m reading: I’m still reading “Sticky Church” by Larry Osborne. I have been a little distracted this past week, so my reading suffered.

Music I’m digging: I’ve been listening to my old R&B mix on iTunes this week. Oh, it’s been awesome!

Ministry update: Now that the Seder is over, I have almost nothing to do this weekend. I am running sound tonight at our Good Friday service, but there is no youth group or Sunday school to prepare for. I get to relax and enjoy the Easter season!

Something Random: Someone put a different type of tea in the green tea jar here at Panera. It’s still good, but it was not what I was looking for.

Looking forward to: In just an hour or so, Jill and I will be heading down to Des Moines to meet my new nephew, Benjamin. I am also excited to see my family on Easter Sunday and spending time with them.

Final Thoughts: Okay, the bitter herbs part of Seder is overwhelming. If you’ve never had a tablespoon of horseradish before, it will knock you over!
